For some people the development of a country is concerned with national economic growth in agriculture & industry: for others it is about improvements in the quality of care for the most underprivileged in that society. This project takes the latter approach and is focussed on care for babies who have been abandoned in the locality of Moshi, Tanzania. That care is undertaken by the Precious Blood Sisters at Upendo [‘love’ in Kiswahili] Children’s Home where some 60 infants live.
These young children are well fed and clothed, but each of them carries the personal tragedy of having somehow lost their mother.
Aims
SGG’s plan is to provide full support each year for at least several of these infants. This work is outside the expertise of SGG’s core helpers, so our role is largely confined to publicity, finding supporters concerned with the welfare of such children, and providing reports to sponsors. Nevertheless, we fully support such work.
January 2008 – young children of Upendo gathered in their play room...
...but for some of the disabled play is quite difficult.
